FM Spox: President Raisi to address Afghanistan neighbors' meeting in Tehran

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Saeed Khatibzadeh said that President Ebrahim Raisi is to address Afghanistan neighbors meeting in Tehran on Wednesday.

Addressing press conference on Tuesday, Khatibzadeh said the event is scheduled to be held in the presence of Afghanistan neighbors plus Russia in Tehran on Wednesday.

The Tehran meeting will be a joint effort by neighbors to reach an Afghan solution and to continue the virtual meeting in Tehran.

He termed appreciating Afghans' rights as a priority for Iran, saying Iran has spared no efforts in order not to stop trade ties with Afghanistan.

Iran has also urged Afghan rulers to maintain political and security stability in Afghanistan.

The Islamic Republic of Iran, as a responsible actor is trying to help Afghan peole materialize their aspirations, he noted.

Elaborating on Afghanistan neighbors' meeting objectives, it is aimed at holding consultations among Afghanistan neighbors. Tehran Summit will be a forum for participation and cooperation in which countries, instead of competing, seek to work and cooperate for the future of Afghanistan. No one has the right to decide on the future of Afghanistan, the decision is with the Afghan people.

The Afghan solution to the Afghan problem is something we should all be looking for, he reiterated.

The UN Secretary General will also send a message to this meeting and will express his support for this initiative.

Commenting on the reasons behind problems in Afghanistan, he said it is believed that the root of the unrest in Afghanistan today is the US withdrawal from Afghanistan after two decades of violence and destruction in Afghanistan.
