2021-06-16 14:45:08
Iranian Government Spokesman Ali Rabiei lauded 2.5 million blood donors in Iran per annum, saying Iran has the highest blood donation rate among Eastern Mediterranean states.

Speaking to reporters on Wednesday, Rabiei referred WHO statistics, saying blood donation rate in Iran is 1.5 times higher than in other countries with moderate-income levels.

He also pointed to the negative impact of coronavirus pandemic on the blood donation rate in Iran, saying that the IBTO experienced 8% decline in a blood bank last year, while the World Health Organization predicted a 20-30 percent fall in blood reservoirs of other countries.

According to WHO website, 14 June is World Blood Donor Day. Every year countries around the world celebrate World Blood Donor Day (WBDD). The event serves to raise awareness of the need for safe blood and blood products and to thank voluntary, unpaid blood donors for their life-saving gifts of blood.
