CBI allocates $178 m to purchase COVID vaccines

Central Bank of Iran (CBI) Governor Abdol-Nasser Hemmati said that CBI has allocated $178 million for buying 16.8 million doses of vaccines through the COVAX.

The need to provide the corona vaccine and doing vaccination should definitely be the most important concern of the country, Hemmati said elaborating on the latest measures taken by CBI for providing the currency for the import of vaccines.

Despite all limitations regarding money transfer caused by sanctions, CBI has made all its efforts for supplying currency for importing vaccines, he added.  

Based on COVAX contract, $178m have been allocated for buying 16.8 million doses of vaccine and the first installment was also paid and imported through COVAX, he noted.

Central Bank has also allocated at least another $100 million for this purpose to pay with the announcement of the Ministry of Health, Hemmati reiterated.
