Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran has issued a statement in commemoration of the International Quds Day, which falls on the last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan on May 22.

In the Name of God, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful

The last Friday of the holy month of Ramadan is the reminder of a major international event which has been designated as the International Quds Day with an initiative from the founder of the Islamic Republic of Iran in the first year after victory of the Islamic Revolution on August 7, 1979, in order to embody the solidarity and coherence of the world Muslims in support of the Palestinian people’s struggles against the Zionist occupiers. This initiative by Imam Khomeini (PBUH) was launched with the purpose of mobilizing the Islamic nations in support of Palestine and making the issue of Palestine last forever and not slide into oblivion in the human conscience, so that the Quds Days would be the day of manifestation of unity, solidarity and wakefulness of the Ummah (community) of the last prophet (PBUH) in the path to liberation of the first qibla of Muslims and countering the threat of Zionism and the global arrogance.

Today, the entire world and all the free people in the world know that throughout the years that Quds has been held captive by the Zionist regime and the state of Palestine has been occupied, the illegitimate and fake regime of Israel has committed a range of war crimes, human rights crimes and racial discrimination against the Palestinian people with the support of big powers, particularly the United States of America, and has had a dark record of violating the human rights.

The Islamic, historic and identity sites of the city of al-Quds, as part of the Palestinian territory, has not been safe from burglary committed by the usurper Zionists since the onset of occupation of this territory, and the city’s old and Islamic sites and neighbourhoods have been devastated day after day, its main inhabitants have been displaced, and more Zionist migrants have been relocated in this holy city within the framework of the policy of Judaization of al-Quds.

This year, we commemorate the Quds Day while the martyrdom of the international figure and the sincere supporter of resistance, Lieutenant Commander Haj Qassem Soleimani, the necessity of fighting against the evil plot hatched by the American and Zionist leaders to mastermind and propose the shameful ploy of deal of the century, and the al-Quds-occupying regime’s attempt to usurp more Palestinian territories give more responsibility to all free people and right-advocating nations and governments. Accordingly, we emphasize that Palestine is facing three basic issues today: the unprecedented Israeli crimes, the patient perseverance of Palestinian people, the silence and passiveness of the international circles and certain Western and Islamic governments.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs reaffirms the continuation of the Islamic Republic of Iran’s policy of supporting the Palestinian people’s struggle for freedom and countering the usurper and criminal occupiers, invites all nations in the world -particularly the noble, resistant and right-advocating nation of Iran - to participate in the events held in commemoration of the International Quds Day (May 22) which will be coupled with a special speech by the Supreme Leader this year, calls on all Muslim and freedom-seeking nations in the world to put pressure on the governments and the international official and legal institutions and force them to perform their legal and humanitarian duty to support the Palestinian people’s rights, an end to occupation, and a halt to the brutal crimes committed by the Zionists and to their aggressive and tension-creating measures in the region, and to keep the flame of resistance and struggle alight so that the voice of right and justice that rejects the ignorance of Palestine would remain heard until the liberation of this holy territory.
